Countless games exist where players are rewarded for harvesting the most resources and maximising economic gain. Our stories, after all, reflect the world we live in. Our stories, however, can also influence how we see the world around us. The tabletop community is ever growing, becoming a worldwide phenomenon like never before, and so it has never been more important for board game designers to be conscious of the messages being spread through their creations. Today, there are better examples of culturally sensitive themes and there is better parity of representation over recent years, but there is much more work to do. Hopefully our work will help to shift the balance away from growth at all costs, to a kinder, more sustainable, and more community driven form of competition.
